Free & Reduced Prague Castle Tickets

Information on free and reduced-price tickets for Prague Castle, including eligibility and how to book.

Prague Castle has a broader reduced-price and free-entry policy than most visitors realise. The grounds themselves are always free for everyone, and several categories of visitor get either free or discounted entry to the historical interiors. See our visitors guide and accessibility page for related information.

Who qualifies

Who enters free

    • Children under 6: Free, every day. No ticket required, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Wheelchair users (TP, ZTP, ZTP/P or equivalent foreign disability card): Free.
    • One companion of a disabled visitor: Free, applied at the ticket office on arrival.
    • Castle grounds, courtyards and gardens: Free for everyone, year-round.
    • St. Vitus Cathedral nave (limited entrance area): Free without a Basic Tour ticket — you can see the cathedral interior from a barrier near the main entrance.
    • ICOM, AICA and ICOMOS members: Free with valid professional card.
    • Czech school groups: Free, with advance registration via the Castle Information Service.
    • Press with accreditation: Free, via the Office of the President.

Who gets a discount

The reduced Basic Tour rate of 300 CZK (vs 450 CZK full) applies to:

    • Visitors aged 6–24 with valid ID.
    • Students aged 24–26 with valid student card (ISIC or national equivalent).
    • Seniors aged 65 and over with valid ID.

The family ticket at 950 CZK covers two adults and up to five children under 16 — by far the best value for families.

How to claim a free or reduced ticket

Children under 6: No ticket needed — walk in with the accompanying adult and show ID with date of birth if asked at the entrance.

Children 6–15 with adults: The family ticket (2 adults + up to 5 children under 16) at 950 CZK is the best value. Otherwise, individual reduced tickets at 300 CZK each.

Students & seniors: Book a reduced 300 CZK ticket in the same flow as the full-price one — choose "reduced" when prompted. Bring valid ID (passport or national ID) plus a student card (ISIC) where applicable. Czech ID cards count for students aged 6–24; ISIC cards count up to 26.

Wheelchair users: Pick up a free ticket at any of the castle's on-site ticket offices on arrival — bring your TP, ZTP or ZTP/P card, or your equivalent foreign disability documentation. The companion ticket is issued at the same time.

ICOM / AICA / ICOMOS members: Bring your valid professional card to any on-site ticket office.

Bring proof: ID with date of birth for under-26 reductions, student card where applicable, disability card for free admission, professional card for ICOM/AICA. Staff at the entrance check randomly — having proof on you avoids any awkward conversations.

Free & Reduced FAQ

Eligibility, documents, and edge cases

Do children really enter free?
Children under 6 enter free with no ticket required. Children 6–15 get the reduced 300 CZK rate or are included in the family ticket. Bring ID with date of birth if asked.
Is there a free day for everyone?
No — unlike some other European national museums, Prague Castle does not offer a regular free-entry day to the historical interiors. The grounds, however, are always free.
Do students get a discount?
Yes. Students under 24 get the reduced 300 CZK rate with any valid ID. Students 24–26 also get the reduced rate with an ISIC or national student card.
Are seniors discounted?
Yes. Visitors aged 65 and over pay the reduced 300 CZK rate with valid ID — passport, national ID card or Czech senior card.
Can carers enter free?
Yes — one companion of a disabled visitor is admitted free, and the disabled visitor themselves also enters free with a valid disability card. See our accessibility page.
Is there a family ticket?
Yes — 950 CZK covers two adults and up to five children under 16. The best value for families, and noticeably cheaper than buying individual tickets.
What is the Prague CoolPass?
A city tourist card that includes Prague Castle admission alongside many other attractions. Worth doing the maths: if you're visiting 3+ attractions in one or two days, the CoolPass often beats individual tickets. Buy it separately from the issuer.
Are teachers free?
Czech teachers leading school groups enter free with the group booking. Foreign teachers don't qualify unless they hold ICOM or AICA membership.
